This GivingTuesday, Stand With Haitians Uprooted by Violence
At the beginning of 2024, a group of families arrived in Mirebalais, Haiti. They were displaced by the escalating violence that had overtaken their neighborhoods in the capital region. Our Haitian leaders welcomed them with open arms, sharing food, shelter, and love in the name of Jesus.
Among them were Wilfrid Dérival and his wife, Roselande. They have six children, the youngest just one year old. Their household also includes Wilfrid’s grandmother, Manise, and Roselande’s younger brother, Jovensky. When violence erupted in their community, they were forced to flee empty-handed. On the run and searching for safety, they turned to Pastor Yves and our team in Mirebalais for help.
Starting over was incredibly difficult. Carrying deep trauma and uncertainty about the future, each day brought stress. Their family was growing, and their means were limited. Through the embrace of GVCM’s community, their hope increased day by day.
However, their journey wasn’t over. Less than two years later, when armed gangs broke through barriers and reached Mirebalais, the Dérival family was forced to make another harrowing move – this time with our own leaders, who became displaced themselves.
In 2021, Haiti had roughly 17,000 internally displaced people (IDPs). Today, that number has skyrocketed to 1.4 million. Families like Wilfrid and Roselande’s have been uprooted multiple times, losing their homes, livelihoods, and sometimes their loved ones.
Never before have there been so many IDPs within Haiti’s borders. Outside charities are doing what they can - but we believe that lasting solutions come from within Haiti. Our Haitian leaders, now IDPs themselves, are uniquely equipped to bring relief and hope to their people.
This GivingTuesday, will you partner with them?
Your gift empowers our Haitian leaders to respond as they continue to face record-breaking need for Christ’s love. Together, we can remind families like the Dérivals that they are not forgotten.
Our goal is $100 per IDP in our care. $100 can feed a small family for a month, provide a student's education for a year, or pay a valuable staff member's monthly salary.
GIVE NOW and stand with Haiti’s displaced families this GivingTuesday. Thanks to our generous matching partners, your gift will be matched up to FIVE times, so there really is no better time to make an impact!
Your money will go to food, shelter, water, basic necessities like clothes, shoes, toiletries etc. to support the IDPs within our orbit.
